WAUCONDA – The Wauconda Area Public Library kicked off its summer reading program June 16 with a performance by the Shire of Ravenslake, the local chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism Inc., that is devoted to the study of pre-17th century cultures.

Dycon Gestour and Alexander DeSeatron dueled with swords, while other members of the chapter discussed lifestyles of lords, ladies of the Middle Ages and Renaissance in Europe.

The library's reading program, themed, “A Midsummer Knight’s Read,”  will run through July 17. For every 50 pages a patron reads, his or her name will be entered into a weekly raffle. At the end of the program, all names will be entered into a grand prize drawing.
