Rec-mobile offers free games, activities for children

GURNEE – A game of “The Blob,” googly eyes, crayons and glue sticks, swings, slides and more were all part of the Rec-Mobile experience June 18 at Gurnee Park District’s Christine Thompson Park.

The Rec-Mobile is a free traveling recreation program offered by the Gurnee Park District that is making pit stops twice a week at various district parks through Aug. 8. The mobile is geared to children from kindergarten through fifth-grade. Parents or guardians are encouraged to attend.

Jennifer Gilbert, marketing and public relations manager for Gurnee Park District, said the idea for a mobile vehicle equipped with games and other activities to visit local parks came from meetings with community members last fall.
