Welcoming guests to the ceremony, Cmdr. Robert Sullivan, executive officer, Naval Station Great Lake (NSGL), said that, “today we take the time to recognize those sailors that have excelled in their military duties.” He noted that, “these military members most closely demonstrate community involvement in the tradition established by Rear Admiral William O. Gallery and Rear Admiral Henry A. Renken.”
Capt. Randy Lynch, NSGL commanding officer, explained that the two rear admirals epitomized Navy leadership that encourages community service and enhances the Navy image.
“Today’s award is given to each of the two outstanding military men or women chosen by an awards board from the various military commands at Great Lakes,” the captain explained. “These recipients, a senior enlisted and junior enlisted sailor, have not only performed well in their military jobs, but have also excelled in voluntary community service.”
