A cool, safe place to sleep in the heat of summer
On a humid July night, nearly 30 men and women are bedding up for the night at the Lake County-based nonprofit Providing Advocacy Dignity and Shelter’s summer shelter.
If it weren’t for PADS’ summer shelter, these men and women would most likely be sleeping on benches in local parks, in the woods where mosquitoes thrive, or in un-air-conditioned abandoned buildings.
The summer shelter, at Foss Park District’s main community center in North Chicago, is open from June 1 through October.
