BMX bike stunt riders teach students healthy living

ANTIOCH — Riding backward with only one wheel on the ground, BMX bike stunt rider and owner of Wonder Wheels BMX Stunt Team Worldwide, Bill Nitschke, had all eyes on him when he and stunt partner, Tyler Sparr, both of Indiana, put on an educational performance on Oct. 24, during Grass Lake School's Red Ribbon Week assembly.

Glued to the two riders were the eyes of the 180 students, pre-K through 8th grade, while they performed tricks on their BMX bikes such as riding off a ramp with their hands in the air, traveling from the front of the bike to the back by switching positions and making their bike spin, as it was moving.

Intermittently, the two would stop their wheel acrobatics to share with the students advice on what to do when someone offers them drugs, about bullying and about never giving up on their dreams.“I learned that everything is a process and you have to work very hard towards [what you want],” said fifth-grade student Ben Wilson.
