Published: Thursday, March 30, 2017 2:03 p.m. CDT

LAKE VILLA – The Lindenhurst Lake Villa Chamber of Commerce will host its 14th annual Home and Health Expo at Lakes Community High School, Grass Lake and Deep Lake roads in Lake Villa.

The expo is from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 1 and 2 and is open to the public. Admission is free.

This year’s event will feature Chicago meteorologist Mike Caplan, who will be greeting fans from noon to 1:30 p.m. Caplan also will lead a mini seminar on the severe storm season and weather preparedness and will be available to answer weather questions.

Caplan was born and raised in Lake County and is proud to still call it home. He is the weekday morning meteorologist at FOX 32 television in Chicago. He previously worked at ABC7 for 20 years. The Emmy Award-winning broadcaster maintains an active presence on social media, where his Facebook posts are among the most followed in Chicago-area media.

Caplan is a graduate of Illinois State University and the College of Lake County. He also completed the meteorology program at Mississippi State University. Caplan has a wife and son along with three dogs, one of which they adopted from the Perfect Pet program he started nearly 30 years ago.

In addition to meteorology, Caplan is a professional photographer. He and his wife own Caplan Studios Photography, providing services ranging from head shots to model portfolios to weddings.

Families can enjoy entertainment provided by Bella’s Bouncies, Fairytale Birthday Princesses and Busy Brains. Cha Cha from Rain Forest Café also will be making an appearance.

Food and refreshments will be available in the cafeteria.

In addition, the Lake Villa Township Lions Club will hold its pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon April 2 at the expo.
