Sailors enjoyed ballpark inspired food and snacks during the Galley 535 “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” dinner June 13.

Outside activities such as cornhole toss and giant inflatable amusements were lined up on the side of the building to keep everyone busy while they waited for the event to begin. The building was decorated in various sports team symbols and flag pennants and the staff wore some of their favorite jerseys while serving the food. The menu included hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken club sandwiches along with baked beans, waffle fries and roasted corn.

“I am normally a vegetarian, but the food smelled so good that I had to try some of it,” said ETSN Jessica Valderramaruiz, a student who attended the event. “I was definitely not disappointed.”

As the line started to extend down the street and around the block, guests signed in to get their meal then proceeded down the line to choose their favorites. After dinner, dessert was also provided with chocolate chip cookies and ice cream.

A USAA booth at the dinner gave a chance for everyone to enter a contest to win a 100-dollar gift card. Everyone also enjoyed live entertainment while they ate outside, enjoying the pleasant evening

“I love the variety of music from the DJ,” said ETSA Clare Steinfelt, another diner. “Hearing Spanish music is the highlight of my day.”

Sailors also went back for seconds since they could enjoy multiple entrees instead of one. For some of them, just having a place to hang out was enough.

“I love being able to go to events like this with my roommates,” said ETSN Abby Dumpert. “All of us here are like a family, so hanging out and having a good time is what it’s all about.”
