Lake County Sheriff’s Office achieves CALEA accreditation

WAUKEGAN – The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has been officially accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, according to a news release.

In order to receive accreditation, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office was required to meet 167 internationally accepted standards for the operation of police organizations.

In March, a team of assessors conducted an on-site assessment. The team ensured the Sheriff’s Office is in compliance with CALEA practices, policies, procedures and standards. After their assessment, CALEA commissioners analyzed the final assessment report and voted to grant accreditation to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office proudly accepted the accreditation July 28 at the CALEA Conference in Grand Rapids, Mich.

“CALEA is considered the ‘gold standard’ accreditation in public safety,” Sheriff Mark Curran said in the release.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is part of an elite group of only 3 percent of United States sheriff’s offices to achieve CALEA accreditation. The Lake County Jail holds dual accreditations through the National Commission on Correctional Health Care and the American Correctional Association.
