Easter comes early for egg-hunters

By MEGAN LOISELLE - foxlake@weeklyjournals.com

FOX LAKE – More than 250 children got an early start on Easter at Fox Lake Veteran’s Park on Saturday.

Despite the chilly weather, Nancy Rogers, director of the Fox Lake Parks and Recreation Department, said the turnout was larger than she had anticipated.

The local Boy Scout Troop 128 helped set up the sixth annual “Egg-citing Egg Hunt,” which was split into four age categories.

Christine Sligting, of Round Lake Beach, has been taking her 2-year-old son Michael to the hunt since he was a baby. She said she keeps coming back because it’s fun.

Alexandria Cogswell, 10, and her brother, Hunter, 7, also said they come every year. Hunter said they found “tons of eggs,” but his sister found the most.

The Easter Bunny was on hand to pose for pictures at the park.

All the children left with prizes – the plastic eggs were filled with candy and small toys.

The Mayor’s Office and the Fox Lake Department of Park and Recreation also provided treat bags with stencils and other games for the participants.
