One Book/One Community 2008 This year's One Book/One Community title is the perfect book to get you in the Lincoln spirit. March by Geraldine Brooks is set during the 1860s and tells the story of Mr. March, the absent father in Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women." Glimpse what life was like for young Mr. March and Marmee in Concord during Lincoln's time. Copies of March were generously donated by the Friends of the Lake Villa District Library. Battlefield Balladeers July 20 at 2 p.m., The Battlefield Balladeers, a vocal-instrumental duo, will perform music from America's Civil War with rhythmic intensity and punctuated with comic relief at Lake Villa District Library at 2 p.m. on July 20. The words of Abe Lincoln, Mark Twain, Frederick Douglas, Robert E. Lee, Mary Chestnut and others give credence to each musical selection. All are welcome to attend. Lake Villa District Library now offers help from real, live tutors via the Internet! Beginning Aug. 1, Live Homework Help is available for Kindergarten – 12th grade, college introduction level students, and adult learners everyday 2-9 p.m. This program connects students to a real live tutor. Children and young adults at home or visiting the library simply log on to the Lake Villa District Library website, type in their library card number, enter their grade level and the subject they need help in and within a few minutes or less are connected to an expert tutor.
