Some brave swimmers take the plunge

Forget the cold. It's time for a swim.

If you're itching to take a dip in some chilly waters (I know there are some brave souls out there) now you have your chance.

The Fox Lake Polar Plunge will take place Sunday, Feb. 28, at Lakefront Park, 71 Nippersink Blvd., in Fox Lake. Registration gets underway at 11 a.m. and last minute plungers are welcome.

The plunging will get underway at 1 p.m. It's unlikely temperatures will get a big boost before then, so swimmers in their skivies are likely to shiver.

All money raised during this icy endeavor will help support Special Olympics Illinois. Visit www.plungeillinois.com for registration information.

Participants are encouraged to wear costumes of all shapes, sizes and colors.

After the swimmers take a dip, there will be an after-plunge party. Plungers are free, and non-plungers are $5.
