More than a century of birthdays

Ann Gaulke just keeps racking up birthdays.

Gaulke celebrated her 102nd birthday with a stack of birthday cards and a slice of cake with other residents of Lilac Apartments in Fox Lake.

When Gaulke was born June 20, 1908, Teddy Roosevelt was wrapping up his second term in the White House. She has since lived under the administrations of 18 other presidents.

She graduated from Morton High School in Cicero and was married to her husband, Walter, for more than 50 years.

Gaulke has three children – Ray, Sharon and Phyllis – seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

"You can't ask the doctor how long you're going to live," Gaulke said. "I'm going to take each day as it comes."
