Family vaca in the Dells
This past week, my family and I traveled to Wisconsin Dells, Wis. for a little bit of relaxation.
For anyone who hasn't been to the Dells, it is the perfect get-away from the Chicago suburbs. After a three-hour car ride, you appear in what appear to be the perfect tourist town. The town is known for its quaint shops, shows, and waterparks.
My family has been traveling to the Dells since I was in elementary school, and the town never gets old. We usually stay at one of three resorts, Kalahari Resort, Great Wolf Lodge, or Wilderness Resort.
This time, we stayed at the Wilderness Resort for three days. The resort features three outdoor and four indoor waterparks. Unfortunately, we only had time to make it to two outdoor and one indoor park. However, in those three parks, we rode in three different lazy rivers, two body slides, and two tube slides.
In addition to the waterparks, my family and I ate at some delicious restaurants. Our favorite is Paul Bunion's Cook Shanty for breakfast. The restaurant features a "lumberjack breakfast," which includes sugar donuts, pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, biskets and gravy, and potatoes. The whole meal is served family style and requesting second and third helpings is encouraged. While you may have to wait a half hour or so before you're seated, the meal is well worth the wait.
Other restaurants I would reccomend are Moosejaw Brewery and Pizza Pub.
The mini-vacation was just what my family needed. With my sister about to head to school and me moving out next week, it was nice for the four of us to spend time together. I would encourage any Lake County family looking for a little R&R to check out the Wisconsin Dells.
